Mechanism of action
Improved cerebral circulation: Niergoline improves cerebral circulation by dilating resistance blood vessels. As a specific adrenalin α1 receptor blocker, the drug can inhibit the pressure reflex of resistance vessels and increase the local cerebral blood flow and glucose utilization during the reperfusion period after ligation of bilateral internal carotid arteries in rats. The blood pressure of anesthetized dogs was decreased, but the cerebral blood flow was not affected by Chemicalbook. It can also ameliorate cerebral vasospasm induced by experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage in rabbits. Improve brain metabolism and electrophysiological activity: Long-term treatment with niergoline can improve the glucose utilization rate of brain extract in aged rats. Acute medication can improve memory function, increase total energy of eeg and decrease slow wave in elderly subjects.
